I seem to get a lot of metaphors for life from doing yoga. I have been noticing lately that when I am holding a balance pose (especially if standing on one leg), if my thoughts creep in and I lose focus, I fall out of the pose. Some days I run in after a hectic morning and I can quiet my mind and have a great class and balance is not an issue. But other days, I can’t seem to focus and I am a wobbling mess as my “to do” list keeps popping in my head.
I think the same thing happened this month with my blog posts. I set up this website so that I could write about life, crafts that I am working on, or new recipes I love. But then the technical aspect of WordPress crept in. It started with wanting to have “You May Also Like” with suggested posts at the bottom of my pages and then it all unraveled from there. In order to have that I needed thumbnail photos, then the titles were too big so I changed themes. Long story short, I spent a lot of time on behind the scenes work that is probably necessary, but mostly stressful. In the meantime, my cute DIY curtains are just waiting for me next to my bare dining room windows and I have a lot of ideas in my head, instead of written down.
I think this happens a lot in life.
I remember getting assigned a project at work and would start it only to realize some other component needed to be accomplished to get that done. Next thing I knew, I would have spent a week on all the other factors and the original task was still left unfinished. In the IT world I think they call it “scope creep”–when the original scope of the project keeps growing into all these different areas.
Has this happened to anyone else? You set out to do one thing but lose your focus and end up straying from your original plan? For me, with this website, I am going to try to work on format and layout only occasionally, so that I can stick to my original plan. In yoga, however, it’s a lot harder to leave everything at the door and focus, but I am trying. And, well, occasionally falling…
I totally get what you are talking about… so many projects seem to snowball into something else. Whether it is with blogging or house projects or even cleaning, they can all ‘run away’ on me a little! But eventually you get there, right?
You are right Krista. I am working on my focus but with two kids who NEVER stop talking, it’s a challenge, lol. Yoga is my quiet time but having a quiet mind there does not seem to come naturally to me either. Thanks for stopping by:)
